Discover more craft gin brands in the spring 2022 edition of ClubLife magazine, available April 5. With the ability to be both the foundation of a classic cocktail (think gin and tonic and the gin martini) and a versatile workhorse, today's craft gins deliver complexity and flavor to a wide spectrum of drinks. One such brand, The Botanist, is distinctive not only because of how its botanicals showcase the regional terroir but also because its birthplace is an area typically known for some of the world's finest scotches. It is made in the Bruichladdich Distillery, which is located on the isle of Islay in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland. Using a painstaking process that takes seven months to pick and dry each botanical, petal by petal and leaf by leaf, a professional forager on staff harvests 22 botanicals that are brought together in a balanced recipe to represent the unmistakable flavor profile of Islay. Miguel Diaz, food and beverage Director at Buckhead Club in Atlanta, uses The Botanist in his signature cocktail, The Winning Pitch. "Our intent was to infuse the fresh flavors of blood orange juice, reminiscent of baseball season's warmer months, with the 'wild influences' of The Botanist gin. Of course, we also want to celebrate our Braves' World Series win with a few bubbles." Today's craft gins deliver complexity and flavor.
